Hive Mortis - Background
Dark Uprising: The Fall of Hive Mortis
On the bleak outskirts of Hive Mortis, the air is thick with the stench of rot, the ground cracked and stained with the remnants of an age long passed. The once-bustling outer districts, forgotten and abandoned by the upper echelons of the hive, now lie in the shadow of decay. What was once a sprawling industrial powerhouse has become a graveyard of rusting machinery and crumbling hab blocks, overrun by lawlessness and plagued by rumors of something darker lurking beneath the surface.
The great spires of the central hive still gleam in the distance, but they feel worlds away. Those who remain in these forsaken outskirts—scavengers, outcasts, and rival gangs—have carved out a brutal existence amidst the ruin. Resources are scarce, and each day is a bitter struggle for survival. Order, once tenuously maintained by the hive's Enforcers, has all but collapsed. With every passing week, more Enforcer patrols disappear into the darkness, never to be seen again.
But it is not just the gangs vying for power that are stirring the unrest. Unholy whispers travel on the foul winds, murmurs of cults devoted to dark gods growing in the underhive. Strange symbols have begun appearing, scrawled on the walls of long-forgotten tunnels, and reports of monstrous, twisted figures stalking the depths grow more frequent. A grim realization has taken hold—this is no ordinary uprising.
As tensions escalate, reinforcements are dispatched from the distant spires, but even they are not prepared for the horror that awaits. The dead have begun to rise, their bodies twisted by foul powers, shambling through the broken streets and dragging the hive into chaos. A creeping madness infects the population, as some are drawn to the growing cults while others desperately try to hold back the tide of darkness.
In the outskirts of Hive Mortis, war is inevitable. The gangs, once focused on survival and control, now find themselves in a battle for the very soul of the hive. Enforcer squads launch brutal crackdowns on the rising cults, while the cultists spread terror in their wake, seeking to summon a force that could consume all of Mortis. Caught in the middle are the desperate civilians, forced to choose sides or face annihilation.
The boundaries between friend and foe blur as alliances shift, power changes hands, and the fragile remnants of civilization begin to fracture. In the gloom of Hive Mortis, there is no clear path to salvation—only bloodshed, betrayal, and the hope that somehow, you can survive the Dark Uprising.
This is the Fall of Hive Mortis. The uprising has begun, and only the strongest will live to see its end.
