Cycle Two - Flicker of light
Liam sat huddled in the corner, dazed and confused, struggling to make sense of everything that had happened. It had only been a few days since he was plucked from the settlement and joined the Reverend in the crusade. His faith in the Emperor had always been strong, but under the Reverend's guidance, it had intensified to new heights.
He had witnessed things he couldn't explain. He had seen Noah seemingly fly forward, as though the Emperor Himself had carried him. His closest friend in the congregation, Hans, had taken blows that should have killed a man twice his size—and yet, he had stood firm.
Liam had fought in his first battles. To him, they had been vast, chaotic, and drenched in blood. Yet, in their violence, there was a strange beauty—a sense of enlightenment. He had watched heretics burn, their bodies becoming living torches lit in honor of the Emperor. He had seen towering figures clad in metal, masked in horror and blood, defying the Emperor's light. He had tasted both the rush of victory and the bitter ash of defeat—all in just a few short days.
Now, as he sat in the relative calm of this corner shrine, the lights began to flicker. Power surges weren't uncommon in the depths of Hive Mortis, but this felt different—something was wrong. And then… darkness.
