Cycle Four - All hopes crushed
The past few days had been nothing short of hell. Fires raged uncontrollably, turning what once passed for streets into smoldering paths of ash and ruin. Those with the means had long since abandoned this part of the hive, escaping to safer, more stable levels. Left behind were the poor, the sick, the elderly, and the young—and, of course, the brutal and bloodthirsty who thrived in chaos. Liam and his gang moved through what remained, the cityscape now a jagged skeleton of broken buildings and collapsed ceilings. Any semblance of civilization had vanished, leaving only desperation in its wake.
Life in the hive had always been a struggle, but it was a struggle with rules. There were still ways to scrape by—a few creds could buy a meal, street vendors lined the corners, and shops tucked into the dim recesses offered supplies. But now, all of that was gone, swept away by the collapse. Not just the vendors and their wares, but entire avenues, entire blocks, and even sections of the ceiling that once formed the hive's distant sky had fallen into dust.
Now, survival was raw and feral. To find food meant catching whatever could be hunted—anything that walked, crawled, or slithered through the ruins. You had to kill it with your own hands, silently and swiftly, for noise was a death sentence. Predators lurked in the shadows, figures more dangerous than hunger. Dark shapes, twisted echoes of humanity, prowled the streets. Whatever they once were, they had been changed by this new, brutal world, warped beyond recognition by madness and bloodlust.
